Solfille is pronounced “sol-fiy.”

trek: the journey

A seven-month research journey studying holistic health modalities in the hubs from which they originate through formal training, cultural immersion, and field notes.

Learning at the source: a public notebook looking closely at the places, practices, and questions that shape how we feel.

The itinerary: seven months, seven places

Hawaii

Exploring the connection to ʻāina, the healing power of nature, and food as medicine while working with a community health center. Understanding the reciprocity between caring for the land and being cared for by it, and how that relationship connects to nourishment, health, and community.

India

Deepening the study of yoga through a 300-hour teacher training in asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, and anatomy. Separately, studying Ayurveda’s approach to food, daily rhythm, constitution, and balance as a guide to everyday care.

Thailand

Immersing in cultural exchange and volunteer work at an elephant sanctuary, exploring everyday approaches to care and a different relationship with the natural world. Afterward, deepening the study of mindfulness, concentration, insight, and Dhamma through a silent retreat at a monastery.

Japan

Sharing a family trip centered on time spent together, ordinary rituals, and exciting new adventures. A reminder that wellness is also built through belonging, rest, and connection.

Bali

Studying foundational and advanced breathwork and sound-healing practices, including how breath, rhythm, vibration, and listening can support embodied balance. Exploring how to hold these modalities with attention, structure, and care.

Vietnam

Delving into the foundations of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) through local instructor training and learning how breath, movement, energy, and balance come together within a broader system of care. Deepening that learning through acupuncture study, with attention to the body’s patterns, balance, and signals.

Bhutan

Exploring the role of traditional Bhutanese medicine within Bhutan’s broader approach to Gross National Happiness, with attention to the relationship between healing practices, culture, and public health. Studying these traditions at an international conference, then meeting with faculty at a traditional medicine institute to learn how the practices are taught, preserved, and carried into contemporary care.
